For the sixth time, self-organized art spaces in the Basel region were united for a joint presentation of ∑ SUMME. Over the vourse of ten days from March 12 to 21, 2021, more than 30 exhibition spaces and projects provided insights into the diversity of the local art scene.

To kick things off, there was an online opening on March 11th with the ∑ SUMME organization and Artina in collaboration with the Mediathek FHNW.

In this edition, a weekend program (March 12th - 14th 2021) was created with Radio X, where the creators of the spaces and projects had their say. Interviews were conducted with diverse insights into the creation, organization and cultural significance of the independently organized project spaces. In the form of two live converations, which were co-organized by the Coalition of the Independent Cultural Scene Basel, urgent cultural policy concerns were discussed with a wide range of experts: How can the precarious situation of freelance artists be improved? How can we campaign for the financial security of artists? And are there models that work as alternatives independent of politics and administration?
